This blog is an attempt to bring together all I can find about the Paul family. Many of the entries will be documents and old books scanned and converted “on the fly’. My OCR software isn’t perfect – there will be typos. I hope I will be able to make sense of the scattered information I have found by putting it all in one place where it can be compared. Possibly I will make connections between families and be able to settle the question of my father’s ancestry.
My father, James Gillham Paul, always believed his family came from Scotland. So I will be concentrating on Pauls in the United States and Scotland. So far I have traced the Paul line from Missouri, to Illinois, to Ohio, and to West Virginia. No proof of Scottish ancestry, as yet. So there will be German and English Pauls in these pages, as well. I’m looking for ANY PAUL FAMILY – anywhere I find them.

My Jabus/Jabez Paul had a son named John William Paul and I found the names you listed above very interesting because the same names are used by various family members of mine. I know this is a very long shot but I was wondering if any of your Paul family line ever lived in or had relatives in Dorchester County,Maryland. I do not know where Lehigh County, PA. is but PA and MD lines do connect.
I do not have any information or reference past Jabus that would lead me to another source of research. I just keep posting and hopeing that, the name – Jabus/Jabez Paul – will ring a bell in someone’s research

I have in my genealogy a George W. Paul born 5 Oct 1832 in Corning, Steuben, New York. He was married in 1857 to Mary J. Phenis. They had seven (7) children: Isabella (1858-1943), Irving (1860-?), Sarah A. (1862-?), George W. Jr. (1864-?), William (1866-?), Erwin (1867-?), James (1868-?). George W. Paul Sr. died on 3 Oct 1897 in Painted Poste, Steuben, New York.
I am especially interested in finding George’s parents and siblings. If there is someone out there who is related to this family, or knows the rest of the story, please contact me.
My mothers grandfather was Walter Edward Paul he married Emma Sandifer they lived in Dallas TX. I think he was born in OK.
In my husbands family tree there is a George Paul born in 1832 in N.Y.
He is the son of Joshua Paul, b. Sept. 25, 1791 Guilford, Windham Co. Vermont and d. June 12, 1861 in Day, N.Y.
Joshua Paul married Mary “Polly” Hayden, b. Nov. 8, 1796 in the town of Day, N.Y. and d. May 5, 1863.
They had eleven children:

My Paul family came from Dorchester County, Maryland. I have been trying to research them for many years and I have never been able to find where they originated from or where they lived prior to Maryland. I only have a very limited amt of info to share, but I hope someone will recognize these names
